Sustaining a lasting

What is

Legacy is Safe Shelter's signature annual fundraising event and a cornerstone of our private fundraising efforts.

This year, Legacy carries an even greater purpose.

Sustaining a Lasting Legacy is about building on the extraordinary generosity that stabilized Safe Shelter and creating the ongoing investment needed to secure our future.

Full

Safe Shelter remains dedicated to full transparency about navigating our financial crisis. In that spirit, we want to share that Legacy 2026 almost didn’t happen. In fact, it was originally scheduled for October 1 and was canceled.

It’s important that we share with you the conversations that took place around this decision. Concerns were raised about public perception. Would it appear lavish or irresponsible to host a gala in the midst of a funding crisis? The truth is that NOT holding this event would have jeopardized Safe Shelter’s re-stabilization.

Discussions also centered on Safe Shelter’s future. What would it mean to host a fundraiser if we weren't able to remain open in 2027? We are holding this event
because the community that showed up for us in such a monumental way

deserves more than our gratitude. They deserve our commitment to a sustainable future. That commitment is reflected in this year’s theme: Sustaining a Lasting Legacy.

We are holding Legacy 2026 because we are confident that our doors will remain open in 2027 and for years to come. More importantly, we are committed to doing the work necessary to make that confidence a reality.

If you want to be part of our lasting legacy, join us on November 19 at 5:30 p.m. at The St. Vrain in Longmont. This will be a celebration of nearly five decades of service throughout St. Vrain Valley and a tribute to the extraordinary community that came together to keep Safe Shelter open and serving survivors.
