What Is

Safe Shelter’s annual Legacy event is our signature fundraiser. More than just an event, Legacy is the backbone of our private fundraising efforts, sustaining critical services for survivors of domestic violence throughout the year.

Domestic violence is r.e.a.l.—Relevant Everywhere, Always Looming. It’s not just a women’s issue, it’s a community issue … it’s an us issue. This year’s event theme, Everyone’s Legacy means two things: that we all share the responsibility to break the cycle, and that survivors deserve to build new legacies of safety, strength, and hope.

Meet Our Keynote Speaker

Victor Rivas Rivers is an acclaimed actor, athlete, author, and national spokesperson for the National Network to End Domestic Violence. A survivor of horrific child abuse and domestic violence, Victor broke the cycle of violence in his own life thanks to the intervention of his community.

Today, he uses his story to raise awareness that domestic violence is not just a women’s issue—it’s a community issue. With a career spanning film, television, and professional football, Victor brings a powerful voice to the movement, reminding us that together, we can help end one of society’s most curable crises.
